While the Camry offers many advantages over the Nissan Altima such as better safety ratings, complimentary ToyotaCare which covers your scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years / 25,000 miles and more passenger space below you will find some of the features advantages that the 2016 Toyota Camry LE offers.

Safety

• The 2016 Camry XLE offers optional Safety Connect which uses a global positioning satellite receiver and a cellular system to help track down your vehicle if it's stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Altima does not offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies.

• The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on all new vehicles. In this test, the results indicated the Camry was a safer choice than the Altima. The passenger safety rating for the Camry was 5 stars where the Altima was only 4 stars. The risk for neck injury was also 2% higher in the Altima than it was in the Camry.

• In a significantly tougher test than their original offset frontal crash test, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does a 40 MPH small overlap frontal offset crash test. In this test only 25% of the total vehicle is struck. Again the results indicated the Camry was a safer choice than the Altima. The Camry received a overall evaluation of Good, the highest score whereas the Altima only received an Acceptable rating.

• Another test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is the side impact crash test. This test crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH. In the front seat portion of this test the Camry scored 5 stars and the Altima only scored 3.

Warranty

• All new Toyota's sold come with ToyotaCare, a program which pays for scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles. (More details below). Nissan does not have a similar program that pays for any scheduled maintenance.

• There are 11% more Toyota dealers than here are Nissan dealers which makes getting a Toyota serviced or warranty work performed easier.

Reliability

• J.D. Power and Associates rated the Camry 3rd in their 2015 Initial Quality Study, the Altima was not in the top 3.
  J.D. Power and Associates' 2015 Initial Quality Study of new car owners provided statistics that showed Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality that Nissan's. Toyota ranked 9th in initial quality, above the industry average. Nissan ranked 20th, below industry average with 17 more problems per 100 vehicles.
  J.D. Power and Associates' 2015 survey of 3 year old vehicles provides long-term dependability statistics that showed Toyota vehicles were more reliable than Nissan vehicles. Toyota ranked 3rd in reliability, above industry average and Nissan ranked 12th with 17 more problems per 100 vehicles.

Braking

• In the 70 to 0 MPH stopping test performed by Car and Driver, Camry stopped in 178 feet, 10 feet shorter than the Altima which stopped at 188 feet.]

• Motor Trends 60 to 0 MPH brake test showed the Altima stop in 130 feet where as the Camry stopped in 120.

• In the Consumer Reports 60 to 0 MPH brake test with wet conditions the Camry stopped in 145 feed, 7 feet shorter than the Altima's 152 feet.

Passenger Space

• Overall the 2016 Camry has more space to offer than the Nissan Altima. The Camry has .5 inches more front hip room, 1.6 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom, 2.8 inches more rear legroom, 2.4 inches more rear hip room, and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Altima.

Economic Advantages

• Kplinger's estimates that the Camry will cost buyers less in the long run because of its superior resale value. Over 3 years the Camry is estimated to retain 49% to 62% of its original price vs the Altima's 47% to 52%. Over a 5 year period the Camry is estimated to retain 39% to 50% where as the Altima is only estimated to retain 36% to 39%.
